The Little Red Barn sits on Highway 5 north of Calico Rock. Its name comes from area residents calling it “the little red barn” or the “Kerr barn.” Many years back an owner was persuaded by a friend and a local businessman to let him paint an advertisement on the top of the barn’s metal roof. For a decade it boasted a Kerr Used Car ad. Years of weather and wear made it fade, and another owner painted over the ad. Today, passersby can still catch remnants of the old add atop the original tin roof. The barn was originally built circa 1940 and was part of an old homestead. When the Kerr ad was painted in the 1960s, the barn was the basic structure it is to date.
After a large oak tree crushed the barn during a strong storm in 2021, it was rebuilt and repaired by Clyde and Nicole Bookout under the direction of a local craftsman and artisan, Hunter East. The 2022 reconstruction story is shared in our blog. The Little Red Barn has become our labor of love and gift to others. Contact us for a free tour, and come soak in some sun on the back deck, watch the sunset on the front patio, or make s’mores with the kids over the fire pit.
Arkansas is calling, and the Ozarks is a perfect place to reflect and breathe.
